She told me that all of my struggles were absolutely from ADHD and approved all of the accommodations I asked for. In talking, she told me her son has ADHD and gave me anecdotes about what helped him and how the college system is not set up well for people with learning disabilities. ![]() My in-take counselor asked me lots of questions about my sleep, memory, how I process information and when I am able to best focus. Additionally, females are statistically under-diagnosed.Īfter a few weeks, I got an appointment. I was diagnosed with ADHD twice in my life but often ignored the diagnosis due to others around me believing there was no way a high-achieving, social female student could have it (mentioning these tidbits as many people believe you cannot have ADHD and have a social life or get good grades, this is so so so wrong). Quickly making this anecdotal post-in-between classes while cleaning up my tears to demystify the UCLA CAE experience as I've seen lots of negative anecdotes around the center / what they do.Īfter a pretty brutal first quarter of feeling constantly behind, struggling to show up to morning classes, turning in assignments late/forgetting deadlines completely, and not being able to focus in class, I made an intake appointment for ADHD accommodations requesting for longer test-taking time, priority enrollment, note-taking support and a distraction-free environment during exams.
